SAP MM (Material Management) module.

The material plays a vital role for an organization to properly function or increase its productivity. It might be raw materials, stocks, or stationery; it is handled by the material management module, from manufacturing, maintenance, supply to production, whatever the raw materials used or any other requirements the management module handles. The crucial primary role of this module is to help the organization’s smooth functioning without any shortage or supply gap.

SAP MM handles all the functions in material management of an organization, such as procurement, production, invoice generation, Goods supply, Goods movement, and Warehouse management.

 Essential functions of SAP MM

Material management essential functions or sub-modules are:

 MRP- Material Requirement Planning, purchasing procurement, Inventory management, goods movement and vendor management.

MRP (Material Requirement Planning)

Organizations require materials. MRP creates an estimation for the product, supply or creating estimation for stock management.

Procurement of purchasing

This function identifies the right vendor, creates agreements, checks the vendor’s quality, and generates invoices.

Inventory management

In this function, we track & check the availability of stocks and how the materials are consumed.

Goods movement

This function tracks the movement of goods from the vendors or the movement of goods to the consumer or the Cost Centre. Its primary purpose is to create goods invoices for the vendor or the plants.

Vendor management

The critical function of vendor management is to maintain the supplier’s track record, material quality, speed of supply, pricing and overall quality of supplies.

Who should learn SAP MM?

It is generally preferred by those with experience in production or sales departments and if you have a mechanical engineer background. It is also recommended to IT, Accounting or management. However, it will be difficult for them. Some companies may consider hiring you if you are from the sales department with 1 to 2 years of experience. However, even with 1 to 2 years of experience, others will be considered freshers.

IS certification mandatory?

In India, the certificate in most companies is not mandatory. Having an SAP MM certificate will also help boost your resume.

How to learn SAP MM?
